Flint River Documentary
The newest Discovering Alabama documentary, “The Flint River,” premiered August 16th at a special screening at Monte Sano State Park Lodge. This event was a wonderful success with over 250 attendees. Series creator and producer Dr. Doug Phillips and the Discovering Alabama film crew were all there to share in the fun. “Discovering Alabama has many friends in the Huntsville area,” says Dr. Phillips. “We know there are lots of good people working to raise awareness about issues facing the Flint. We hope this episode will aid in that endeavor.”

As Dr. Phillips and the Discovering Alabama crew headed down the river to its eventual merging with the Tennessee, folks with special connections to the river were interviewed along the way, including FRCA vice president and City Ecologist Soos Weber, renowned outdoor writer J. Wayne Fears, UAH biologist Dr. Bruce Stallsmith, and Thomas McCrary, Alabama’s oldest living farmer. Discovering Alabama writer and producer Roger Reid says he feels honored to have worked with Dr. Phillips on the program. “I grew up in Huntsville,” says Reid. “I’ve fished and camped along the Flint with my friend Terry Martin (also an FRCA member), so working on this program means a lot to me.”
FRCA will be constructing teacher aid packages to accompany the "Flint River" DVD as it will be distributed to local libraries and teachers in the watershed.
