Monitor Construction Projects
The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) is the agency responsible for enforcing the Clean Water Act in Alabama. Keep an eye on construction projects near your home and workplace; if you see construction projects that are not using "Best Management Practices" to keep sediment out of storm drains and waterways, contact ADEM. Below is an example of a construction site you should report.

Silt fences are supposed to be buried and staked down so they will prevent sediment from running into stormdrains and waterways. This is an example of a construction site you should immediately report to ADEM.
Contact ADEM:
If you see a problem with a construction site, see illegal discharges into a river, or see a dramatic change in water quality in an area stream or river, you can file a report with ADEM. Alabama Rivers Alliance provides a helpful guide for how to file a complaint.
